Working With a Coach
There are a wide variety of reasons individuals and organizations seek out coaching because it provides useful tools to uncover strengths, accelerate learning and increase success and satisfaction in your career. All types of professionals at every level seek out coaching—even coaches have coaches! The following are examples that bring people to coaching:
You have recently transitioned into a different or higher level of responsibility, e.g. Director to VP or C-Suite, frontline to leadership position, Physician to CMO
You want to improve and grow your existing leadership skills
You want to learn how to accelerate your or your team's progress
You want to advance into a different position and are having difficulty getting there
You have situation-specific challenges such as time management, inter-personal issues with peers and colleagues, etc.
The collective “we” is stronger than any one individual. Dysfunctional teams are like dysfunctional families--we’re either part of one or we know of one. The implications of low performing teams are far-reaching and can have a ripple effect throughout an organization. Does this sound familiar to you? Some signs that your team may not be firing on all cylinders include:
Ineffective team meetings in which nothing is accomplished
Too much or too little input from team members
Unmet goals
Rehashing the same topics repeatedly
Lack of forward momentum
Who Benefits From Team Coaching
Effective team coaching seeks to uncover the issues within a team and design solutions to create a unified vision and voice, thereby increasing the team's effectiveness, cohesiveness and likelihood of success.
Any team can benefit from team coaching—from the C-Suite to the front line.
Rachelle's Coaching Process
Coaching is an ongoing process. Think of these five steps as a continuous cycle of tasks—once step five is complete, you move right back to step one.
Assess - "I am here" stage. Assess strengths and leadership skills
Define - A chance to define your values, goals, and what you'd like to see instead of or in addition to where you're currently at.
Discover - This is the coaching lab portion of the process where you have a chance to experiment and try on solutions through observation and information gathering to determine what works and what doesn't.
Implement - Your opportunity to enact positive change and implement a new way of being
“I found the (360 Review) process to be very beneficial. The feedback was perfect and I was, and will continue to be, able to effectively coach my employee on how to be a more effective leader and professional.”
K. Adkins, COO
“
“(Rachelle is) so great at reading people and providing guidance and making me see the other side of things. I learned not to react immediately to a tense situation. To sit back, take a breath and compose the response as to not increase tensions further.”
K. Krebs, S Coordinator
“
“As a new director in a health system, her approach to mentoring/coaching was invaluable in helping me better understand the new skills I needed to quickly develop to influence in a matrixed environment.”
A. Oho, VP
